So I have been back home for almost 2 weeks now and I'm... thankful to be home?
Well I am glad to be out of the dorm and have my privacy back, but there are so many people left back in Arizona that I miss so much. I think it is true what they say, you meet your friends for life in college.
I've learned a lot over this past year, and without getting too cliche or sentimental, here they are:
1. Find a balance in your life. My first semester I stayed in my room and studied a lot and my grades showed all my efforts. Second semester I chose to go out a lot more and hang out with friends, and again my grades showed my lack of effort. I realize that I don't need to lock myself in my room to do well in school, but I also need to learn to say no once in a while.
2. Keep in touch with those at home. On the other hand, don't stay wrapped up in your old life from high school. Not going to a UC or Cal state I had little attachment left to home. Although I was sad to be so far away from everybody I realized I would be miserable if I focused all my thoughts on everything I was missing.
3. Try new things. I made mistakes.. lots of mistakes. But that was okay because I got so much more out of it by trying new things. I learned it doesn't hurt to try something new as long as you are smart about it.
4. Appreciate privacy. LIving in the dorms, I had none. As much as I loved living next door to all my friends it did start wearing on me. Instead of keeping it all inside and eventually blowing up, I learned when to distance myself when needed.
5. The bathroom. 17 girls, one bathroom, there is really no explination needed here.
6. Take lots of pictures. But don't post them all on facebook.
7. Enjoy being under 21. Yeah yeah, you can drink (legally) when you are 21, but being older comes with a lot more responsibility. I love being 19 because I still don't have a lot of responsibility, but I do feel it coming on. I'm excited to get older but I appreciate still being young.
8. HAVE FUN! Your first year goes by way too fast. |

I'm back for another entry :]
School... isn't too bad and the semester is over in another 3 weeks, yay! I'm keeping my grades up pretty much so I don't lose my scholarship and yeah it isn't too hard. And I get to come home in 6 days! I'm super duper exicted for that.
Roomate... blah. We started out pretty good but lately all she has been doing is getting on my last nerve. We are such opposite people its hard to live with each other. Ive never had to share a room before so I knew I would have to change my habits a little this year, but she is so inconsiderate most of the time [like when she turns the TV on while I'm trying to study or read]. Its good to know I don't have much longer here and I have other people and things to keep me busy.
Everything else... is pretty good. I'm busy with school and work and other stuff. Unlike most people, I don't party at all but I'm pretty okay with that. I thought I was going to when I first came here but weekends are mostly hanging out in the dorm with friends or going to University for dinner [a street with restaurants/bars/stores]. Maybe one day I'll actually go out but i don't know, its not too high on my priority list. I'm more worried with keeping my grades up, but no worries I still have fun :D
Well I should be going, I'm really tired for some reason and I have a quiz tomorrow in Greek Mythology. [Which I'm skipping another class to study for...]. See everybody soon! |

so yeah, everybody is finally in school as of tomorrow which is good because im already in my 6th week :]
i love hearing how everybody is having fun, though. Just be warned, once classes start it becomes HELL [well, sometimes] and you find yourself severly sleep deprived.
Oh yeah, don't get sick. Ive had a bad cold for the past week that has caused me to wake up late for my last two classes. I haven't missed anything too important, but its just been throwing my whole schedule off and I keep thinking I'm forgetting things [like my lab notebook and manual for my chem lab this morning...]. I kind of wish teachers gave you more of a break here like in high school because my body isnt getting a chance to get better since I have to go to classes all the time. Oh well, im just planning on missing the football game on saturday and staying in my room and getting better.
On another note, I want letters!! People don't realize how great it is to get real mail until you are isolated from all your family and friends. My mom sends me random cards in the mail so I get something once in a while but I want to hear from everybody else. Don't want to post my address up here so I'll email it to people. I'll send you mail back :D
Okay, i shouldn't be writing here anymroe because I'm missing a class right now to study for a test I have later today. Peace Out :p |

Things I have learned in the first week of college:
1. Learn to sleep through everything. This includes passing fire trucks, your roomates lights, and people down the hall blasting their music.
2. Long showers are a distant memory. Shaving is just a cruel joke.
3. Privacy is non-existant.
4. You no longer care about how you look, matching clothing is optional if dressing in the dark not to wake up your roomate.
5. Keep a lot of food in your room. While the student union looks like a great option to eat at it is expensive and fattening.
6. Don't be too shy to meet your hall-mates. Or your classmates for that matter.
7. If in your dorm room, keep the door open so you can meet the people passing by.
8. Don't count on your room as a place to study, try the study rooms in your dorm or the library.
9. Read what you are given. While it may not seem as if the professor knows who of the 300 in his class did their homework, he will find out and it will catch up to you.
11. Don't be a hermit crab, there are thousands of people who also don't know anybody.
12. While an hour long lecture might seem impossible to sit through, listen. It will be on a quiz.
13. ORGANIZE!
14. The TV is not your friend.
15. Go to class on time, walking in only to have 300 faces staring back at you is not a comfortable situation.
16. Show your school spirit, its not high school anymore.
17. Call your parents, a lot. Don't act like you aren't a little homesick.
18. Figure out where your classes are BEFORE the first day of class. At least look at a map.
19. Have fun :] While the next four years may seem impossible to get through it won't be.

So for any of you who watch "So You Think You Can Dance?"... Benji's little sister was by best friend in kindergarten and his mom was my dance teacher. They are family friends, so if you vote, make sure to vote for him! :]
Anyways, I haven't made an actual post in close to forever so I thought now would be a good time. Summer has been.. summer. Not too exciting but not too boring either. Brett is in Alaska for the next week and a half so I have been left at home. I leave for school on August 16th and I'm nervous that I won't be able to handle being away from home. I've pretty much detached myself from all the people here but I think its the atmosphere I am going to miss. A lot of people hate everything about Southern California but I think we are pretty lucky to live here. I don't go to the beach much but I'll miss it being there and even the lovely weather it brings us everyday. I keep listing all the things about California that I will miss [i.e. in 'n' out, jamba juice, cpk, disneyland, the beach] but what I really should be doing is looking forward to new things in Arizona that we don't have here [i.e. i have no clue]. I'm going to miss the comfort of home, although my mom has been trying to make sure I am taking care of myself more and taking care of my own problems since I won't have her here next year.
The thing I am most scared of though is not being able to handle my classes. Although I don't think they will be too difficult [besides chem] I am still worried I won't be able to keep my grades up enough. I am lucky that I am done with math because I passed the Calculus BC AP test and pre-pharmacy majors don't need too much math. The downside of this is having to take 10 science classes +labs over the next three years. I feel like I am going through high school all over again trying to get into pharmacy school. I know this is what I really want, I am just worried that I won't be able to focus enough or I'll try to take the easy way out. We shall see...
I'm sure I will be fine and this nervous feeling is quite normal, but it still makes me a little worried. |

So, normally my updates are a little more philosophical, but here is a plain old update on Torrance High's Prom :]
Started out the day by going to work and the rushed off to hair and makeup and came home and got dressed. Then Brett and family came over and the pictures began. Met up at Brittany's for the limo and headed off to the Gene Autry museum to eat and dance :] The DJ was terrible but the ride in the limo made up for it [thanks to Stan's DJ skills]. The night was amazing and I don't really miss not going to West's prom. Then came the after party at my house where we just ate bunches and watched movies. Everyone left around 1:30 this afternoon and Brett and I cleaned house and went to Kinko's to print pictures. It was a great weekend :] I would type more but acrylic nails don't do well with typing so I will leave you with pictures. There are only 10 out of the 120 I took but I figured this gives a good idea :]

I have finally made my official decision. Next year i will be a
University of Arizona Wildcat, pre-pharmacy
Its not Ivy League, and its not even a UC (although I did get into every UC that I applied for), but I think this is where I will be happiest. I think the one thing West has taught me these past four years is I don't want to be somewhere where I will be stressed out constantly worrying over dropping out of the top 10%. People may think Arizona is a party school (its actually ASU, but it doesn't matter), but here is some news: every college is a party school. I know by going to UofA I will be happy and feel comfortable and enjoy learning for once in a long time. And no, I am not following Brett anywhere. Both of us chose UofA for separate reasons and it was actually the only school we applied to together. UofA the top 7 pharmacy school in the United States. I will be able to graduate in six years with a doctorate of pharmacy, a starting salary of $100,000, and an almost guaranteed job. But all that isn't really important. Whats important is knowing that for the next six years, I am going to be happy.
And don't worry, I'll be back to visit :]

I think... I've finally given up.
I've finally lost my best friend, and yeah, I am hurt. Not a friend, just the best part. But I feel I've done all that I can to help things, and honestly I was more hurt when I was constantly pretending. I have feelings, and so does she. And we've both had our share of hurting the others. I see my mistakes, and really wanted to fix them but I no longer really can, now can I? Or maybe I was just to late to see what was wrong. Oh well.
And like they say, friendship shouldn't be hard work, right? Times are changing, and people do to, I just hoped this wouldn't have to be one of those things. Like I've said, I'll be gone in seven months and don't really plan on looking back too much. I guess she doesn't realize that? Or maybe she does and really doesn't care anymore. Who knows? I certainly don't anymore.
I'm here waiting, ready to talk when she is. And if that moment never happens, it's more her loss than mine because at least I tried. I'm not alone in this world, I have a boyfriend who I love and can tell absolutely anything too, sisters who understand everything about me, and some other amazing friends who are always there when I need them. But it wouldn't hurt to have her there, to talk about those things that only best friends do. I can't promise to get over what has happened, but I do promise to forgive.
(I know I sound horribly emo, but I really needed to get this out. It's not like it was some big secret to most people anyway). |

on some other notes:
-one year was amazingly awesome and fun and i got the most gorgeous dozen white roses
-disneyland started off blah but became so much fun and didn't want to leave at the end
-last day of work for the season was saturday. was ok except i got burnt/had to be there at 8:30 the day after dland
-registration was short and my schedule got messed up a little but oh well
-art class with my mama on friday. should be fun?
-went school supply shopping today. doesnt feel like school should be starting. |
